What Is the Complete Process of Rivet Welding Processing?
Rivet welding is a core process in the production of mechanical steel structures, integrating riveting, welding, shaping and assembly. It is widely applied in the manufacturing of equipment frames, mechanical bases, steel structural components, and engineering machinery parts. The complete rivet welding process features rigorous and interconnected procedures. Standardized operation effectively ensures firm structural stability, accurate dimensions and smooth appearance of workpieces, while avoiding common quality defects such as welding deformation, weld cracking and assembly deviation.
The first step is blanking and pretreatment. In accordance with the dimensions of construction drawings, precise blanking of plates and profiles is completed through shearing, plasma cutting and other cutting methods. After blanking, workpiece edges are polished, chamfered and deburred, with oxides, rust, oil stains and other impurities thoroughly removed to ensure clean and flat welding contact surfaces. Raw material pretreatment serves as a fundamental procedure to improve weld fusion and reduce welding defects.
The second step is assembly and riveting positioning. Workpieces are assembled and aligned strictly according to structural drawings with accurate calibration of size, flatness and verticality. Tooling fixture fixing, spot welding positioning and mechanical riveting are adopted for preliminary positioning to fix all components accurately and prevent displacement and misalignment during welding. Riveting positioning effectively disperses welding stress and improves the overall structural stability of workpieces.

The third step is formal welding operation. Appropriate welding processes such as CO₂ gas shielded welding and manual arc welding are selected based on the material and thickness of plates. Welding is carried out in layered and segmented symmetrical modes. Welding current, speed and temperature are strictly controlled to avoid workpiece deformation, incomplete welding, slag inclusion, pores and other defects caused by local overheating. This ensures full and uniform weld penetration, meeting the requirements for the overall bearing strength and tightness of steel structures.
The fourth step is correction, shaping and fine polishing. Welded workpieces are prone to stress deformation, which requires mechanical correction and thermal correction for leveling and straightening. Weld seams, weld beads and welding spatter are fully polished to achieve smooth workpiece surfaces. Finally, appearance inspection, dimension recheck and non-destructive testing are conducted to eliminate hidden troubles such as cracks and incomplete welding. Qualified workpieces undergo rust removal and paint anti-corrosion treatment, completing the closed-loop process of rivet welding processing.
