What Causes Poor Dust Collector Performance? Troubleshooting Methods
When an industrial dust collector suffers from reduced dust removal efficiency, dust emission at the outlet or excessive dust in the workshop, the problems are mostly related to damaged filter elements, abnormal ash cleaning systems, air leakage or mismatched operating parameters. Troubleshooting from outside to inside helps locate faults quickly.
First, inspect air leakage on the housing and pipelines. Poor sealing on the dust collector cabinet, access doors, flanges and pipeline welds allows cold outside air to infiltrate. This disturbs internal airflow, lowers dust removal efficiency and may cause bag clogging due to condensation. Check whether sealing strips are aged or fallen off, tighten loose bolts and repair damaged housing to eliminate air leakage points.
Second, check the core filter components. Filter bags serve as key parts for baghouse dust collectors. Holes or damaged filter bags directly lead to dust leakage. Humid dust or low flue gas temperature tends to cause bag clogging: dust sticks firmly to filter surfaces, blocks pores and reduces air volume. Open the cabinet to inspect filter bags. Replace damaged bags immediately. Clean or replace filter materials for severely clogged bags, and control flue gas temperature to prevent condensation.

Third, examine the ash cleaning system. Pulse-jet cleaning is widely adopted. Malfunctioning pulse valves, insufficient injection pressure or incorrect injection timing prevent dust on filter bags from peeling off in time. Dust accumulates continuously, and resistance rises steadily. Observe pulse valve operation, adjust air supply pressure and check air compressors and pipelines to ensure stable cleaning action.
Fourth, check the fan and operating air volume. Insufficient fan speed or fouled impellers result in inadequate air volume. Excessive inlet dust concentration beyond the designed capacity also weakens purification performance. Verify whether actual air volume and dust concentration meet rated parameters of the equipment.
Run a test after fault repair and monitor dust emission at the outlet. Regular inspection and maintenance of filter bags, pulse valves and sealing parts can reduce dust removal failures and ensure stable, compliant dust discharge.
